At KFMS, Student Led Conferences are an important opportunity for students to take charge of their learning and share their progress with their families. During these conferences, students present their Student Learning Plan (SLP), which includes goals for all subject areas and focuses on key character traits like responsibility, kindness, teamwork, growth mindset, and service. Students discuss their best work, set new goals for the rest of the year, and talk about their hopes for the future. This helps them reflect on their growth and take ownership of their education.
Parents play a key role in this process by completing a rubric on the student’s presentation, giving feedback that helps guide their learning. In April, students will meet again with their parents to review their progress and check if they are on track with their goals. All of this is part of preparing students for their 8th-grade passage presentations at the end of the year. Students practice with peers in the classroom to get ready, and families and staff are invited to complete surveys to share their thoughts on how to improve the process for future conferences.
